Form 7 London


London, the Capital of Great Britain
              London is a very old city – it is more than 2000 years old. There are a lot of places to visit.
1.     Hyde Park is one of the biggest parks in London. You can feed ducks and squirrels in Hyde Park.

2.     Trafalgar Square is in the centre of the British capital. There you can see Nelson’s Column. It’s sixty-four metres high. It was built in 1841. There are four bronze lions around the column.

3.     The British Museum is famous for its collections. You can see mummies from Egypt, masks from Africa, vases from China, statues from Italy and many other things.

4.     The Tower of London was built by King William I as a castle in 1066. Then it was a royal home, a prison and now it’s a museum. It is also famous for its twelve black ravens. People say that the ravens bring luck to London.

5.     The London Eye is the world’s largest observation wheel, which was built in 2000. It is one hundred and thirty-five metres high. You can take a ride and see all of London.

6.     The Houses of Parliament were built in 1265. On the big tower you can see a clock. It has a famous bell called “Big Ben”.

7.     Buckingham Palace is the London home of the Queen’s family. It was built in 1700. There are six hundred rooms in it. If the Queen is in the palace, a flag flies on the building. The guards of the palace wear red uniforms and tall black hats.
